Woodland Bohemian Outdoor Party Inspiration

I have totally been crushing on all things bohemian lately. I may not dress like a boho chick, but I completely appreciate the look in all its feminine, throw-back glory.  I've been planning a special little intimate party, the details of which I will keep on the down-low for now. These are some of the images that have helped me come up with my overall plan and I couldn't wait to share them with you. If you would like more details for each photo, just click the link below each one.

Overall Aesthetic:
Flower crowns, feminine and flowing fabrics, and a nod to yesteryear. What's not to love?

The Details:
What could go better with flower crowns than moss and ferns and flowers? And the setting? Outside amongst the beauty God has created.

Mint green, coral, and blush pink. Such a beautiful combo. Needing color inspiration for a party or even a room re-do? Look at the latest wedding trends to get inspiration.

I really, really, really hope that the weather cooperates so that I can have this little shindig outside like I have planned. It just won't feel the same if I have to do it indoors, but I'll make it work if that happens.

I looked to a lot of wedding trends and photos for my inspiration for this upcoming party. Where do you look to get inspiration?

Painted Front Door

You know, I think that painting a front door is like putting on lipstick.  A pretty shade of lipstick can pull an outfit together, can top off a look.  It can make the okay look more fabulous.

Painting a front door can mean the difference between "Meh" and "Man oh man!"  I've been meaning to paint our front door for months now, but, until now, just haven't seemed to get around to it.

You see, our home was kind of boring.  It had white doors, white trim, white windows, and white shutters. I stained my vinyl shutters a couple months ago.  That was like my home's eyeshadow, the mascara.  You know, when you add eye makeup, it brighten's up the whole face.  And staining my shutters brightened up my home.  It made it stand out just a little bit more.  Suddenly, you had something to look at other than white

But, the look wasn't complete. Not yet.  Not without the lipstick.  And every girl needs a good shade of lipstick.

Our brick is a reddish orange.  I wanted a bold color to compliment the brick, so I thought turquoise and orange would be perfect just like in this color scheme.  The door color needed to be bold enough to stand out and draw the eye.  Our front door is recessed back, and since it is white, you really don't even see it.

I started with two shades of blue.  The left is Festoon Aqua by Sherwin Williams and the right is Florida Keys Blue by Benjamin Moore.  While I love Festoon Aqua, it was a bit too muted in the outside light.  I went for the bolder color.  It was the perfect shade of lipstick for my home.

I added a house number decal that I ordered from Leen the Graphics Queen over a year ago.   It was great quality and affordable at only $10!

I also spray painted the door knob and lock with Rustoleum's Oil Rubbed Bronze.  The lock was gold and the knob was aged and had been painted on a few times.  This unifies the two and gives it new life.

Now that I have the "lipstick" on,  I am kind of debating painted the trim around the side windows to make it look like it is all one door unit instead of a door and two side windows.  I just can't decide if I should or not or what color I should if I did.  (I was thinking either a color like the shutter stain or the aqua.)  What do you think?

To paint or not to paint?  That is the question.

Whimsical Wonderland Bedroom

My youngest child, A, is lively and full of spunk.  She makes me laugh with just a look.  She always knows the right moment for comic relief, the right look to give exactly when she is getting in trouble to make her daddy melt.  She is boisterous, loves to be around people, and sings with abandon every chance she gets.

She might be a little more like me than I care to admit.

My sweet five year old is compassionate, tender-hearted, and has the most infectious giggle in the world.

When I close my eyes and think of her, I see color!

Last year at Christmas. Yes, she was singing at the top of her lungs when I took this picture.  Probably her rendition of  Tis the Season which goes a little more like, "Scooby dooby dooby dooby jolly."

I knew her room had to be as vibrant as she.  I wanted to add as much color to her room as she adds to my life.  So, I got a color-laden plan.

Before:

When we moved into our home, her room looked like this. The walls were a dark burnt orange/reddish color. I wanted to brighten it up!

 After:

I painted a whimsical tree on her wall above her reading corner.  The flowers are cupcake liners. The pink bird and quote is vinyl.

Her reading corner features two shelves my husband made out of pallet wood, a bunting with her name on it, and lots of pillows for getting comfy!

I painted her bed a bright yellow. The yellow was repeated in her bedskirt fabric, monogram pillow, and the window valance.

Whew! If only I could keep it this clean!  More often than not, it is strewn to high Heaven, but that is another story.

I have loved this sweet little room, but change is on its way.  Soon, I will be changing things around and will be sharing in a special series next month. It's called 31 Days and is hosted by The Nesting Place.  Looking forward to making her room and my home more functional for our family and sharing it with you!
