How You Know It's Time To Declutter

Coinciding with No Spend August, I have also been cleaning out closets and trying to declutter a bit.  I made this infographic for you, albeit a bit facetiously, after I cleaned out my mudroom and found the most random group of items ever.  Why in the world did I have 47 unused cassette tapes, 22 newspapers, and 13 tissue paper poufs just sitting in my mudroom?  It was definitely time to declutter!

Do you need to declutter, too?  Make a commitment to cleaning out at least one area a week. I still have a few more areas to go, but it sure does feel good to purge things that aren't needed and get a little more organized.

Weekly Cleaning Schedule Printable

Day 10: Cleaning Schedule

Yesterday, I shared the thorn in my flesh.....cleaning!  I decided to make a schedule so I can better keep track of what I need to be doing, and do it consistently.

This is what I came up with:

I didn't make a "deep cleaning" schedule, but an everyday routine to follow.  I think it helps me to have a visual reminder of what I need to be doing, so printing this cleaning schedule out and framing it seemed like the best thing for me to do.

31 Days of Revising Home: Day 9

Cleaning......The Thorn in My Flesh

(To see all of the 31 days posts, click here.)

I think it is pretty safe to say that I am not the only one where housekeeping is the thorn in the flesh.  I have a load of laundry washing even now as I type this, but it seems like that is one of the things I can never get caught up on.

Sometimes, housekeeping overwhelms me.  I take a look around at the many things that need to be done and I don't know where to start first.  J always tells me to stick to one thing until I'm done, but I have a bad habit of starting one thing, then in the middle of doing that I will see something else that needs some attention and hop to getting that done.  It's a vicious cycle.  I have to make myself focus.

And don't get me started about cleaning with kids in the house!

Yep, that about sums it up. As my girls have gotten older, I have given them more responsibilities around the house, but it is a challenge to keep the house clean and picked up when as soon as I get the living room clean, two little munchkins decide they want to set up a tea party with all their dolls. In the living room. Where I just cleaned. **exasperated sigh**

And can I just confess something?  I love having people over.  One of the reasons I love having people over is it gives me great motivation to get the house cleaned from top to bottom and possibly even finish a home improvement or decorating project.  I mean, it's still hospitality even if I have ulterior motives, right? Right?

Oh, man. I really need a better plan for this whole cleaning/housekeeping thing.  And since this month, I am revising home, what better time to implement a cleaning schedule.  I mean, this will be a total game changer for me.  If I can stick to it.  I can do it. I can do it. I can do it

Yep. That's what I'll do.  Get a plan. A glorious, wonderful, detailed cleaning schedule that can help me keep it all straight and stay on top of the housework.

What is your housekeeping strategy?  Do you use a cleaning schedule or some other method to keep your home in order?
