31 Days of Revising Home: Day 8

Kitchen Solution #3

Day 8 of 31 Days of Revising Home:

Whew!  Yesterday was a mad dash to get all my kitchen cabinets in order.  You know it always gets worse before it gets better. You couldn't even see my countertops as I took everything out of the pantry and started organizing and rearranging.  But it was so worth it.

If you missed the before pictures of my cluttered cabinets you can have a look here.  Go ahead.  I will be here when you get back.

Now, here are my newly organized cabinets:
This cabinet held all of my kiddie cups and plates.  It was too high for my girls to easily reach very far into the cabinet, so I relocated items that aren't used at every meal.  The top section has a place for chips and popcorn. The baskets to the right hold dry goods like beans and lentils and the other one holds rice and pasta.  I used a riser ( a clear, acrylic one left over from when I had a store) to get a variation in height so I, or the hubs, could see the label on the basket and know what belongs there.

A place for everything and everything in its place, right?

This bottom drawer holds beverages like tea, Kool Aid, lemonade, and hot chocolate.

This side of the cabinet holds my gloriously organized cans.  I used a riser here to utilize the height of the cabinet.  The top shelf holds all of our condiments and boxed items.

This is my baking drawer.  While it doesn't hold absolutely everything that is involved in baking, some of it is housed in the cabinets around my stove, it does have all the things that I need to be easily accessible like cocoa, flour, cornmeal, and decorating items.  I used the baskets to hold cookie cutters, various cupcake liners, and pudding.

The kiddie drawer:  I put this down low in a drawer that my girls could easily get to.  I wanted them to be able to get their own cup or plate, but also to be able to help put away their things when they are clean. I flipped over a riser to corral the plates and added all the lids to a basket.

All of my canning supplies and some canned goods are housed here.  I needed a place to put all this stuff. It was kind of here and there and everywhere.

This is now strictly a breakfast drawer housing cereal, Pop-Tarts, grits, oatmeal and baking mixes.

This is still our snack drawer.  I just straightened it up a bit and "edited" down to what needed to be there.

Wow. I really feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders.  I've been wanting to get that done for a while.

What are some projects you are working on?  Anything looming over your head that you know will make you feel better if you just get started? Leave a comment. I want to hear about it.

  1. I like the upside-down riser for kiddie plates! Those things drive me crazy because they all seem to be different sizes and they stack horribly. I'll be still the idea for a lid basket in the kiddie drawer too :)

    1. Thanks, Lora. I had extra risers and I always try to use what I have on hand if at all possible. Sometimes that forces me to come up with out-of-the-box solutions. Glad you stopped by!
